Founded in 2017 by former internationally best-selling author Dean Crawford, the company focused initially on freeware aircraft development. Dean worked to build the skills required to move across to commercial production, while also studying the simulator audience to identify the largest customer base, and therefore the business model most likely to succeed. This resulted in DC Designs focusing on the mid-level user, producing aircraft that had realistic flight models, but systems that are accessible to all users, and with a focus on performance on older PCs in preference to “super-detail” models.
In 2020, DC Designs partnered with distributor Just Flight for the release of its first commercial product, the F/A-18E Super Hornet package for Microsoft’s FSX and Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D. The package was an instant success, and led to two more – the DC Designs F-15 Eagles, and the DC Designs Concorde.
In late 2020, development shifted to focus solely on the newly released Microsoft Flight Simulator. Since then, DC Designs have released a string of highly-rated, highly successful aircraft including the F-15 Eagle, PT-17 Stearman, F-14 Tomcat, Concorde, AV-8B Harrier II and F-4 Phantom II. The development houses’ sister companies, SC Designs and CJ Simulations, have also released the F-16 Fighting Falcons and the Eurofighter Typhoon respectively.
DC Designs is committed to producing great, enjoyable aircraft that are accessible to users of all ability levels on both PC and Xbox console, and has been delighted to have had most of those products tested by pilots of the real aircraft from around the world.
